Concerned Northern Forum Advises President Tinubu to Approach Apex Bank Investigation with Caution Amid Controversies
The Concerned Northern Forum, representing Northern interests, has urged President Bola Tinubu to exercise caution regarding the report submitted by Jim Obazee, the special investigator tasked with scrutinizing the activities of the country's apex bank under its suspended Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele. In a statement released on Tuesday, Chairman Aliyu Muhammad and the group expressed reservations about Obazee's suitability for the role, given his controversial past.
Pointing to Obazee's history of financial improprieties, the group argued that his qualifications and integrity are questionable, referencing scandals during his tenure as CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. The statement stressed that Obazee should be the focus of an investigation rather than leading one.
While acknowledging the necessity of probing the apex bank, the group asserted that the investigation should be entrusted to an individual with credibility and integrity, free from corruption allegations. The statement called on President Tinubu to dismiss the report, labeling it as one-sided, partial, and potentially harmful to Nigeria's economic well-being.
