"Revolutionizing Passport Applications: Nigeria Launches Fully Automated Process on January 8, 2024"

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has announced the imminent launch of fully automated passport applications starting from January 8. Having previously assured Nigerians that the process was 99 percent complete last year, Tunji-Ojo emphasized that with complete automation, individuals will only need to visit immigration centres for fingerprint or biometric purposes.

Under the new system, users will have the convenience of uploading passport photographs and supporting documents from the comfort of their homes. After inspecting the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) facilities in Abuja on Monday, Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that the automated process, set to go live on January 8, aligns with President Bola Tinubu's renewed hope agenda.

“We are good to go live. We are starting the training and on January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians," Tunji-Ojo announced. He highlighted the substantial reduction in human contact during the passport acquisition process, emphasizing the move towards a more efficient and user-friendly experience for applicants. This development marks a significant step towards the envisioned automation of the entire passport application process, allowing Nigerians to apply and complete their applications online without the need for human contact.
